Part II: A Guide For Newcomers Entering the Thrift Game.

Hey #BrickSquad! Welcome back to part dos of our two-part blog series: A Guide For Newcomers Entering The Thrift Game. If you missed Part I, please read now!

Last time we spoke about setting goals for yourself when thrifting, men’s fashion for women, and spotting the peacock!

Let’s dive in, and soak up some thrift knowledge from the thrift doctors.

Examine Your Finds Before You Spend Some Shmoney

One of the most important things for us, when we go shopping, is to make sure we check EVERY SINGLE article of clothing we buy. It’s so easy to get swept up in the heat of the moment when you’re thrifting, especially when you’re having a good haul day!

We make a conscious effort to pull things out that speak to us and worry about finding imperfections once we finishing scanning the store. This way we can thoroughly look through our finds before check out and eliminate anything that isn’t up to our standards.

Get The Right Fit For You

There have been a couple of times in my life that I have spent some money on tailoring for a good thrift find. By no means are we saying that you should tailor every single piece of clothing you buy from a thrift store because that isn’t necessary, but sometimes it can be! Spending a little extra on a pair of great jeans that you know will last for years is not a bad idea at all.

Bring Your BFF

You know how you send pictures to all your girlfriends before you go out to make sure your outfit is on point? This is the same! Sometimes we can feel silly trying things on a thrift store and not having anyone for a second opinion and reassure you that you’re making the right call! We always rely on each other and other friends in our circle for advice on trends, looks, etc.!

Mark Down Heaven

This kind of seems like common sense but we find it is always best to shop during pre-sale or the first day of markdowns! Thrift stores such as Value Village often send out emails as to when they have sales, so it’s easy to keep track of! We have found that shopping these days have been great because it saves us a ton of money on a product for our online shop (or for ourselves) and if you hit up the sale early enough you will find some great pieces for your closet! The longer you wait, the less likely you will be able to find some great pieces.

To cap off Part II of our Guide For Newcomers Entering The Thrift Game we just wanted to remind everyone to not get discouraged, there will be days that you will walk out empty-handed, and that’s okay. We love thrifting as a hobby and walk into a thrift shop with no expectations and an open mind to anything that comes our way!
